Superior is the best way to discribe the service and support from the staff at the Hawthorne. Just to name a few, Shannan in house keeping, Amanda and Melisa front desk the older gentleman in the dining area who waited on us the Management and on and on. These people know what they are doing and there is no doubt they are there to make your stay exceptional. I have traved a lot due to work and ... Hawthorne your doing something right I wish you great success and hope many others have the same positive experience my wife and I had. This is really interesting because the room we had was a cornor room and though the room itself was really clean and well kept, the Bath room was, to say very small. But even that was not going to discourge us from enjoying your hospitality and our weekend to Salem. Great job guys. [less]

antique is one thing, old and cruddy is something else! Yard sale furniture. They spent a lot of money on the lobby but looks like almost nothing on the rooms. They had entertainment in the bar in the past but they don't now. The bar with fireplace is a very cozy place to hang out.

The Hawthorne Hotel has alot of old New England character including the red brick, plaster walls, and iron work. Also, it is an ideal base for exploring historic downtown Salem.

They served an excellent continental breakfast in the dining room that's located in the basement. (Doesn't sound great, but it really was quite cozy and cheerful!)
