Hotel Pontchartrain/ Cobo Center

As a lifetime resident of Michigan I am ashamed of what has become of metro Detroit. How any area could become so neglected is beyond belief. For the last 8 years my wife has had a monthly appointment at a downtown hospital. We usually come into the Detroit area and stay in one of the hotels in the suburbs. Last week we decided to stay at the Pontchartrain. It seemed very little had been upda... [more]ted since our last stay there seven years ago. The Hotel is dark and depressing. The rooms are worn and outdated, with the paint coming off the ceilings, the wallpaper coming loose and the entire hotel taking on a musty odor. The help were friendly and the Valet parking adequate, though expensive. We elected not to eat in the Hotel. In our entire lives this would be the second worst hotel we have ever stayed in. I recommend anyone contemplating staying at the Pontchartrain rethink there choice and stay a few miles out where there are numerous true four star hotels. [less]

I recently stayed at the Pontchartrain on 3-25-05 and I have to say I was prepared for a big disappointment from most of the reviews I read. I have to say it was not bad at all. The rooms were clean and the service was good. The structure is a little worn down but it is an old hotel so what do you expect. You can tell at one time it was a 4 or5 star hotel. The only complaint I have is the restaurant was closed and there was no room service but there was complimentary breakfast. The bottom line is I expected a 3 star hotel and that's what I got. [less]

my mother came for a conference with a large group from Europe. I called the hotel to send amenities. they told me call back 8 hrs later. I called later 8 times they did not even listen, they said they are busy. 4 days my mom stayed I could not be connected to her room. Once I called, I gave the name, the operator left the phone, but not transferred me. Meanwhile she paged the maintance, they had ... [more]a long conversation and I heard every problems they had about the rooms, toilets, elevators, etc. Then 7 minutes later she came back and gave the room number of my guest! Meanwhile even though my guests had cc, they turned their telephones off for the entire group so they could not call or get any phones. I waited for 4 days. meanwhile my mother assumed I never called. The entire group prostested and said they were the worst hotel, but did not even get assistance, messages, or apology. [less]
