OCEAN PLAZA BEACH RESORTUser reviews for OCEAN PLAZA BEACH RESORT
By Barry V. Oliver from Lincoln UK • Ocean Plaza visit - 9/26/04 to 10/1/04
Overall Rating: 8 Spent 5 nights at Ocean Plaza, on 3rd floor Oceanfront. Over from UK visiting our daughter, son-in-law and 3 grandkids (plus 3 cats and a dog) in Bluffton SC. We like to get away when we're over in US for a few days so tried Ocean Plaza. Very impressed, nice, spacious room, ocean views, Dolphin Reef Restaurant excellent food and service. Only downside was that although I reserved a room during a day visit the previous week, and left my CC imprint, when we arrived, there was no record of my reservation. Fortunately there was space and a young lady called Alix sorted us out.
Very enjoyable - will be back next year, if not sooner. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By Trip Tutorial User from St. Paul, MN • NEVER GO THERE IN YOUR LIVE!
Overall Rating: 2 Location [2] • Room [2] • Service [2] • Value [2] me n my friend were there for 3 days. it was the wrost 3 days or our lives. when we checked in. the hotel was in a different building then the service desk. when we checked in to our room there was a terrible smell. there was mold in the bathroom and dirt in the shower.there was sand in the carpet. our door handle broke off. there was no house keeping n the bed sheets were unclean. my friend had to sleep in a wet bed one night because they didn't change the sheets at all. there was sperm on the walls and radator. Our toilet didnt flush. in the middle of the night people are getting drunk n screaming. there are police men knocking on your door at 2:30am every night. the restraunt was high price. the ramada inn is cleaner. i have stayed in a motel more cleaner maintained then the ocean beach plaza Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By Trip Tutorial User from Atlanta, GA • Avoid this place!
Overall Rating: 4 Location [6] • Room [2] • Service [2] • Value [2] This place was dirty and is obiviously not being maintained. The only good thing about the stay was the bathroom was clean or we would have left immediately. Some of rooms are missing their door numbers, our carpet was dirty and stained. The sofa was broked and too fility to touch. Old, old furnishings throughout. We were there for only 2 nights and had to call for maid serivce at 5pm the day we were on the beach. Two very small pools are poorly located in the parking lot. Forget the views only the top floor ocean side might have something to look at. Both sides of the buidling are bordered by parking lots. There are better choices on Tybee. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By messer_five from Knoxville, Tn • Nasty Rooms, NO SERVICE
Overall Rating: 2 Location [6] • Room [2] • Service [2] • Value [2] We were charged $30 more a night than what we reserved it for, via the internet. The manager said he would change it. The room smelled like a moldy basement, the paper on the night stand felt like it had been dipped in the ocean and was still drying. The shower was moldy, the metal door moulding was rusted badly. The bathroom had no fan and the awful looking mirror was fogged after taking a shower and you couldn't see to finish getting ready. The carpet was nasty, the bedspread had cigarette burns in it. The day after check in, we were gone all day until 4pm, we came in and our room had never been touched. We had dinner plans in Savannah, so my husband walked down to the front desk and was told all rooms are not fully serviced every day. He told them no one had even set foot in our room and we needed clean towels. No apology given. After 45 minutes I called to the desk and was told they would bring them. I showered and had to dry off with my beach towel because it took them another 20 min to get there. We checked out the next day and our room rate was never fixed, the manager was not there and he ignores my phone calls to get it fixed and doesn't return my messages. The parking is horrible. After returning from Savannah, there was no place to park except the city parking between the hotel and beach and then we were charged $9 to get out. I left and went to the DeSoto. The girl that checked us out commented that we were leaving early but never asked if things were ok there, or anything. There was another couple there complaining and they were getting the shaft also. Overpriced for their nasty rooms. Go to the Desoto Beach Hotel. Overall Rating: 2 Location [8] • Room [2] • Service [2] • Value [2] First and foremost, we were "accidentally" overcharged $800.00 on our credit card. LET ME REPEAT $800.00!!!!!
Our sheets and bed reeked of mold, the bathroom was disgusting. I am currently in the process of trying to receive a full refund from this hotel. Stay at a small bed and breakfast, or stop at the visitors center for more ideas....DO ANYTHING BUT STAY AT THIS HOTEL! Overall Rating: 2 Location [4] • Room [2] • Service [2] • Value [2] My wife and I toured the Georgia coast and stayed three nights at Ocean Plaza on Tybee at the end of our trip. We had a room on the ocean side of the building, and what a filthy room it was. There was trash in and around the couch, the bedspread had numerous cigarette burns (despite being a non-smoking room), and the bathroom was moldy. Beyond the room the hotel was very noisy, with someone pounding on our door at 1:30 in the morning. Of all the places I've stayed, Ocean Plaza is still the only place where I have seen someone being escorted down the hall by law enforcement at 3 in the morning. After the first night I frantically tried to find a vacancy somewhere in downtown Savannah but to no avail. The real horror came the morning my wife and I checked out. As we always do, we stripped the bed of all linen, thus forcing the cleaning crews to replace the bed sheets. The matress we had been sleeping on was horribly, horribly soiled and stained. At the checkout desk we found others lodging similar complaints but the automatons at the front desk kept repeating, "There's nothing we can do about it." I'm glad this place was at the end of our trip--it made us very glad to be heading home afterwards. Ocean Plaza Beach Resort--just say no. Overall Rating: 2 • Service [2] incidents for Tybee island:
mold, sprem, wet sheets, boken toilets, sandy carpet, a gross police man, stoned drunk pagons, and a nasty beach, ( make sure you do not add a door handle because there wasn't one).....enough said Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By Trip Tutorial User from MADISON, WISCONSIN • WARNING - THIS PLACE WILL RIP YOU OFF
Overall Rating: 4 Location [10] • Room [6] • Service [2] • Value [6] | Great location | | Management/staff get very poor rating |
When we checked into our room, we noticed the door latch was missing on the bathroom door. Further examination indicated that someone had bashed in the door and splintered it. When we checked out we mentioned this to the management. They responded by putting $250 on our credit card for a broken door! Even though I've made several attempts to contact management, my calls have been ignored. I believe management is now screening their calls to avoid me. In March 1992, before my husband, Jim, and I were married, we went on vacation. We were headed to South Carolina, from Ohio, but it was snowing! We opened up the map and found Tybee Island! Once we arrived, we found The Ocean Plaza Hotel!!! We liked it so much, that in May 1993, we came back for our honeymoon! We had told my mom and stepdad about it and they came twice before I made it back, in April 2001, with our two daughters (Emily,5 and Macey,2). It was a spur of the moment trip, after we had visited friends in Athens, Georgia. To my surprise, I found an awesome new pier had been constructed. Finally,in July 2002, ten years after my husband and I found Tybee Island and The Ocean Plaza Hotel, we came back, as a family, with our three daughters (Emily,7, Macey,4, and Riley,9 monthes)!!! I hope we can make it back soon(it is already March 2005)! There is one thing that I can think of that would be an awesome improvement to this hotel. It would be to build a larger pool and snack bar/garden and playground area on the beach side of the hotel, with access from that same side of the hotel!!! The great location, pools, nonsmoking, ocean view rooms, awesome restaurant, and service are some of the reasons we like, come back(when we can) and recommend to others to stay at The Ocean Plaza Hotel! We love Georgia, Tybee Island, and The Ocean Plaza Hotel, not to mention vacation!!! Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By Trip Tutorial User from georgia • giant roaches
Overall Rating: 4 Location [10] • Room [4] • Service [2] • Value [2] the carpet was nasty there were nail clippings between the night stand and the bed.was going to stay for two nights even with the problems i stayed for the first night, on the second night when i laid down for bed i turned out the light and started to go to sleep when i felt something crawl across my face. i got up and turned on the light and right beside me was a huge roach. i killed it with my shoe. opon further inspection there was another huge bug climing down the wall. we called the front desk they said they could come and spray our room. it was 11 o clock at night. by then i had had enough i packed our things and put them in our car which took about 30 minutes. i went to the front desk to turn in my room key. she at that point offered me another room.so at that point after i had packed my things and was on my way out they offered this. i advised the clerk that i was only going to pay for a day and a half instead of the original two days i had booked she replied you will be charged for the full two days. what a rip off. this is what you get for 130.00 a night Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | |
