I'm a frequent guest at Super 8 motels, so I know what to expect from a discount chain. This location was substandard. Two of four light bulbs worked in the room upon arrival. A request for replacement bulbs took 30 hours to satisfy. One plug of the outlet closest to the telephone did not work. Internet access is via data port, so I had to choose between light and plugging in my laptop fo... [more]r internet access. The a/c unit was covered in what appeared to be residue from a window leak. The bedside table was dirty upon arrival. The staff was less than friendly. I won't be staying at this Super 8 location again. [less]

If you are visiting Charleston for family history research, this location is ideal. 1.3 miles from the State Archives Records. A block from the Health Department for vital records. I rode the city bus to the Archives at the Capitol Complex. Bus stop was a short block away within view of the motel. Easy on and off 64 & 77 if you are renting a car. Within a few blocks of the mall and restauran... [more]ts. I bought soup at the nearby RiteAid and heated it up in the lobby microwave. Excellent weekly rates. Friendly and helpful people. Across from a huge cultural center. Have stayed there twice before and going this year on another extended stay genealogy trip. My home away from home. [less]
