By Emma from Francestown, NH • Come see for your self
Overall Rating: 10 Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [10] I love Harbor house! My huge Family goes every year for a week! We always stay at Harbor house because of its great pool, hotel rooms, and being able to walk to town! I love the Harbor House!Come see for your self!!!!!!!!! Overall Rating: 10 Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [6] • Value [8] As a precursor to any travel plans and expenditures in Nantucket, one has to advise that things are very [exploitively?] expensive in this resort area. From my observation, it seems that meals are at least $10 to twice what they cost on the mainland and hotel accomodations easily double unless you have a special discounting deal. My observation, too, is that things such as clothes, jewelery and ... [more]other general faire (ice cream cones, bikes, small gifts or necessities) are wildly inflated over their comparable prices on the mainland. So let the chooser of vacation destinations beware!
That being said, this hotel was a very pretty and clean hotel. Our room was bright and clean. The room door needed some work as did the toilet which was loose on the floor. Other than that, the room was fine. The front desk help (both arriving and departing) were a bit confused but everyone was courteous and helpful. While I usually don't eat dinner in hotel restaruants, the breakfast was more than adequate and well prepared. The bed was the best I've slept in anywhere (including my own!).
If you don't want to be right in the middle of town, this location is a 5-minute walk, across the street from Children's beach and a 15-minute stroll to Jetties beach. Not bad.
While they have Internet access in the rooms and an internet room, I would use it with caution because it didn't appear to me that their network and internet security was fully addressed.
All in all a nice hotel. My value rating is based on what is available in the area, not what's reasonable compared to mainland hotels. [I stayed in the Hyatt Boston the previous week and paid much less than the non-discounted rate for my room here!] [less]

Overall Rating: 2 Location [6] • Room [6] • Service [2] • Value [2] Although Harbor House is decently located in town and is clean, the service was nothing short of terrible, the rooms are cramped and noisy, and the corporate feel of the place ruined the feel of true Nantucket charm. If you go, expect to be treated as "an opportunity for profit maximization" rather than a human being, and bring your earplugs. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | |
