Stayed here based on Frommer's guide and was a bit disappointed. Room was tiny, air conditioner/heater didn't work and was not repaired and the view was of a garage next door. Paying $207 a night, we felt a little cheated. But there are many pluses: Great location, within walking distance of X Square, Macy's, Empire State Building; lovely lobby with adjoining bar/restaurant; great breakfest; and immaculate bathrooms. Nice place but certainly not the best moderately priced hotel in NYC; that would be the Milburn on the Upper West Side.

My husband took me to New York for our wedding anniversay in 1999 and we stayed at the Hotel Metro - and couldn't fault it. The rooms were superb, the whole ambience of the hotel took you staight back to the Art Deco era, the complimentary breakfast was great, and the view from the roof terrace was spectacular.

Overall Rating: 2

I arrived at the hotel with bags in hand, no help at the door, after dragging my stuff up the stairs and inside, I find out there was a "mistake" with my reservation (actually, they claimed I was the one who made a mistake) and I was supposed to have stayed the night before which they informed me they had already charged me for. They then informed me there were no rooms available for that evening, and there was absolutely nothing they could do for me leaving me with no room and no place to go. Thankfully, I got a room at the Four Points by Sheraton in nearby Chelsea (which deserves a 5 star rating for their view alone, not to mention the courteous and helpful staff). Once I got somewhere where I could check my email, I checked my confirmation and THEY were the ones that made a mistake. I will NEVER, EVER bother even calling the Hotel Metro again, there are MUCH better places to stay in that area.......plus, their website and online booking SUCKS!!!!!

By Nice little hotel.

Overall Rating: 8

I booked a room at Hotel Metro for a recent business trip. When I arrived at 11:30pm, the street looked a little scary and I thought maybe I had made a mistake. But as soon as I got inside, I realized I hadn't.

The staff was couteous and efficient. The art deco decor was nicely done. The room was on the smallish side, but perfectly fine. They even had free wireless Internet, which I wasn't expecting.

The next morning, the street looked much better, with several coffee shops and a nice restaurant on the block. There's also a great pizza stand around the corner. Bryant Park was a short walk away.

Overall, a nice boutique hotel. Perfect for the budget-minded business traveler who's not interested in yet another Hyatt or Westin.

Location, Price and service

none

It was our first time staying in NYC and read many reviews and got lots of input and based on Frommer's review of Metro selected this hotel looking for a good mix of location and value. We found it to be everything we hoped for and more. It has a great location just steps from the subway, Macy's and everything else if you are hoping to see the sights.

The staff was great and helpful from the minute we got to the door where they helped with our bags to ideas of sights and help in getting to our tours and to the subway and stops.

The continental breakfast was great, the rooms (smal) but not by NYC standards from what I hear were clean, comfortable and just right for the price.

I will reccommend this to any friend who is looking for a nice, value priced hotel in NYC.

Lovely staff, great location. We had two twin rooms for four friends just shopping and sightseeing - doorman very helpful with ideas for meals, and theatre. Free coffee and breakfast rolls in the morning. Will come back next year for more and absolutely will stay here again.

By A Great, Clean Place to Stay in Mid-town

Overall Rating: 10

The location is perfect, just off of Herald Square and Macy's. It's right in the heart of Manhattan. The hotel was very clean, the staff was very helpful and the beds were great. All in all we'd stay there again without hesitation.

Service was excellent. This is a cozy little hotel, tucked away on a sidestreet that makes it convenient to everywhere in the city. Subway entrance is about 300 feet from the front door. Front desk staff were more helpful than Concierge's at the big name hotels. Rooms are clean and the bed was new. Only used the room to shower and sleep and it met my needs perfectly.
