By Renae from Michigan • I'LL STAY HERE ANY DAY!
Overall Rating: 8 Location [8] • Room [10] • Service [8] • Value [8] I love this hotel....it's old...the oldest on mackinac island therefore you're gonna have everything that comes along with an old hotel! If you want to experience the island as it was meant to be experienced then the Island House would be perfect. Yes, the rooms are a bit small, the walls may be a little thin, and yes, the doors may even be a little off kilter but that's the beauty of it! If you're looking for a modern day hotel you're certainly not going to find it on HISTORICAL Mackinac Island. It's reasonably priced as hotels go in a resort area. There are certainly more expensive places on the island. And they have a gorgeous view in the dining room, which is gorgeous in itself, that overlooks the harbor and you can sit on the extremely large porch day or night and take in all that beauty. The food is some of the best on the island! This is one of the few hotels if not the only that have a INDOOR heated pool, whirlpool and a sauna which also has a restaurant attached to it with excellent food! I've stayed in many of the hotels on the island and I would definitely stay at the Island House again! If you choose to stay here please be prepared to accept the Island House for what it is...a piece of Michigan's history! Overall Rating: 4 This was our worst night stay in a hotel. The walls are super thin and the doors have large openings underneath, so if you want to sleep take ear plugs along. THe rooms are poorly arranged and cluttered walkways. The windows are really low to look out. The breakfeast was very good. The view was not that great because of two large trees in front of hotel. All this for $200.00 and that was a special deal that included a half pound of fudge. Will stay elsewhere next time. Island is beautiful. Overall Rating: 8 Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [8] When I stayed there it was part of a package the Island House was offering that included a two night stay, dinner in the restaurant, and ferry tickets. There was a bit of complication with the tickets, so I ended up having to pay for that myself but the hotel was quick to repay the bill. Because I hadn't received the packet of information about the stay, I was unsure of how to get my bags from the ferry to the hotel, but staff from the Island House were there to take care of everything right when I stepped off the ferry. The service was wonderful! The room was small, but comfortable and the view was great. When visiting Mackinac you spend so little time in your hotel room anyway, that the space wasn't really an issue. There is an elevator but some floors do have stairs and are a bit narrow. Yes, the walls are not sound proof, but on the flip side with your window open you can hear the horses going by and take in the island. Everything was clean, tidy, and ready for use upon arrival. The porch is the perfect place to sit, sip on your favorite drink and watch the horses, bikes, and people drift by while overlooking the water. The included breakfast is tasty as was all the food I ate at both the restaurant and the grill. Location wise you are close to the ferry and the shopping surrounding that area, restaurants and pubs, the butterfly park, the mini golf course, and plenty of historic homes -- all within walking distance. I would stay here again. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | | By Trip Tutorial User from Fennville MI • First Anniversary
Overall Rating: 10 Location [10] • Room [10] • Service [10] • Value [6] My wife and I celebrated our first anniversary at The Island House. We had a wonderful room on the first floor on the south west end to the building. Our room had a great view of the harbor. The staff at the front desk was great. Every request we had was filled right away. On day we left the privacy sign on the door so housekeeping skipped our room. When we returned from town we saw what we had done and called the front desk. While we enjoyed a soak in the hot tub they had somebody from housekeeping take care of our room. We had a bottle of wine and no corkscrew or wine glasses. A quick call to the front desk and there was a corkscrew and two wine glasses. It was just a wonderful trip and a wonderful hotel. Was this review helpful to you? → YES / NO | |
