Vulcan ParkDescriptionThe statue of Vulcan, the Roman god of fire and forge, was displayed in 1904 at the St. Louis World's Fair as a symbol of Birmingham and Alabama, since Birmingham was famous for its iron industry. Then the statue was moved to Birmingham and for over 100 years it has stood in the park. Vulcan stands 56 feet tall, from toe to spear point, upon a 124-foot pedestal. It is the largest cast iron statue in the world and the largest statue ever made in the United States. Visitors can take an elevator to the statue’s observation deck and enjoy stunning views of the city.
