Desert Botanical Gardens

Description

The Desert Botanical Garden is devoted exclusively to cacti and other desert plants. It houses more than 20,000 plants from all over the world on the territory of 50 acres. The mission of the Desert Botanical Garden is to encourage an understanding, appreciation and promotion of the uniqueness of the world's deserts, particularly the Sonoran Desert.

The Plants and People of the Sonoran Desert Trail is considered the state's best introduction to ethnobotany (human use of plants). Interactive displays of the trail demonstrate how Native Americans used wild and cultivated plants. Visitors can make a yucca-fiber brush and practice grinding corn and mesquite beans. Late in the evening, they can stay until dark and see night-blooming flowers.
