Thorncrown ChapelDescriptionThorncrown Chapel is a beautiful glass cathedral in the woods. It is a forty-eight foot tall wooden structure with 425 windows. The Chapel has won numerous architectural awards such as the American Institute of Architecture's Design of the Decade Award for the 1980's and the American Institute of Architecture's Design of the Year Award for 1981.
Thorncrown Chapel was the dream of retired school teacher, Jim Reed. In 1978 he enlisted the help of renowned architect E. Fay Jones to design a chapel for the visitors to Eureka Springs. The chapel was opened in 1980, and since that time over five million people have visited this woodland sanctuary.
WeddingsThorncrown Chapel is Eureka Springs’ most favorite wedding location. Surrounded by trees and beautiful rock formations, it provides an unforgettable setting for a wedding ceremony. Since 1980 many people have come from all over the world to get married at this beautiful chapel.
Operating HoursThorncrown Chapel is open the following hours: April through November 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March and December 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Chapel is closed January and February except for weddings and other special events. On weekends the chapel occasionally closes at 3:30 p.m. for special events.
