Old Washington Historic State Park is a National Register of Historic Places site, offering visitors the chance to travel back to the 19th century. It contains the state’s largest collection of pre-Civil War houses, including classic examples of Southern Greek Revival and Federal architecture, Gothic Revival, and Italianate. The houses are authentically furnished and contain many items (furniture and ceramics) that are 19th-century treasures.

The park also contains such attractions as the 1836 courthouse that served as the Confederate capitol; the Edwards Weapons Museum with more than 1,500 items of pioneer-era rifles and pistols; a print museum featuring 19th-century printing equipment; re-created blacksmith shop; and the Pioneer Cemetery.
