Indian Canyons

Description

Visitors of the Indian Canyons can enjoy the serenity of the nature, and beautiful views. There are three canyons open for touring: Palm Canyon, famous for its stand of Washingtonia palms; Murray Canyon, home of Peninsula bighorn sheep and a herd of wild ponies; and Andreas Canyon, where a stand of fan palms contrasts with sharp rock formations.

In ancient times the canyons were home of the Agua Caliente, part of the Cahuilla people. Visitors can see remnants of their ancient life including rock art, house pits and foundations, bedrock mortars, irrigation ditches, pictographs, and stone houses and shelters built atop high cliff walls.

The trading post in Palm Canyon offers hiking maps and refreshments, Native American art, jewelry, and weavings.
