Hagley Museum and Library

Description

Hagley Museum is located on 235 acres by the Brandywine River in Wilmington. It is the place where Du Pont fortune got started. The first of Du Pont gunpowder mills was built here in 1802, and the first du Pont home, Eleutherian Mills, in 1803. Visitors to the 240-acre site have a lot to see: they can walk along the river and see the roll mills and the narrow gauge railroad. The dioramas in the Millwright shop explain how gunpowder is made. The museun also houses a collection of manuscripts, pamphlets, photographs, and books, documenting the history of American business and technology.
