Goodwood Museun & GardensDescriptionGoodwood Museun & Gardens, Inc. is a private foundation produced to renew the historic Goodwood estate as a museum and garden available to the audience.
The Main House, which is now open to the public as a museum, was built about 1840. It is one of the finest prewar plantation houses ever built in this region, it features some of the earliest fresco ceilings in Florida. The collections and furnishings are all original to the house.
The initial idea for the gardens came from Hardy Croom, who was the first owner of Goodwood plantation. Research documentation and scrupulous selection of heirloom plants allowed us to restore to these grounds the sense and ambience of the garden of the early 1900s. No plants introduced later than 1929 are used in the restoration. The gardens have been a regional resource for heirloom plants and old garden roses.
LocationGoodwood Museum & Gardens is located on sixteen acres of sprawling lawns, gardens and centuries old live oaks. In addition to the Main House, there are thirteen outbuildings, a roller rink and reflecting pool. Goodwood is situated at the corner of Miccosukee Road and Medical Drive, just east of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and 1.7 miles west of Capital Circle. The entry to Goodwood is on Miccosukee Road directly across from Carraway Street.
