Indianapolis Motor SpeedwayDescriptionThe Indy Speedway, built in 1909, is one of the most famous car raceways in the world. Each May, more than 400,000 visitors throng to the 2.5-mile oval course to watch the Indianapolis 500, the largest single-day sporting event in the world, which boasts the largest purse in motor racing. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum is located within the track's oval. The museum traces race car history, including a display of restored speed demons, starting with the first Indy winner in 1911.
