Isles of Shoals Steamship CompanyDescriptionSix miles of the coast of New Hampshire and Maine is an archipelago of nine uneven and beautiful islands. These islands, the Isles of Shoals, are believed to have been discovered in 1603, and since, have gone through many changes. They were first dwelled as a fishing village but ultimately grew into a resort community. Today, with the resort peak days behind them, the Isles of Shoals remain a peaceful hideaway from the noise and traffic of the mainland. It is even believed that pirates visited the isles in the 17th century to hide from pursuers.
The Isle of Shoals Steamship C0. arranges tours to the islands during all the year, and while it is named after the Isles of Shoals, the company also runs whale watches, harbor and lighthouse trips and private charters. Ferry service to the islands has been going on for more than 150 years and the Isles of Shoals Steamship Co. preserves that tradition with its modern and convenient ferries.
The ships used at Isles of Shoals Steamship Co. involve the M/V Thomas Laighton, a 90- foot replica of a Victorian era steamship and the M/V Oceanic, a 70-foot, 150-passenger boat specially designed for great observation. Both ships serve concessions, and the M/V Thomas Laighton has a heated cabin to keep warmth during the colder months.
