The Providence Children's Museum

Providence Children’s Museum is an active place where kids and grown ups play and learn together. Our museum is located in Providence’s Jewelry District, it presents hands-on exhibit areas and lively programs, which are designed for children ages 1 to 11 that explore the arts, culture, history and science. Exhibits and programs, all based on the developmental needs of children, embrace a wide range of learning styles and forms of expression.

Our museum was incorporated in 1976 as a participatory learning center for children, their parents and teachers; later it opened to the public in 1977 in the Pitcher-Goff House in Pawtucket. Families and school children from communities throughout Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts were coming to visit the Museum.

In October 1997, the name changed to Providence Children’s Museum. The museum opened its new and much larger facility at a former factory building in Providence's historic Jewelry District. The property, at the juncture of Interstates 95 and 195, is easily accessible from all points in the state. The Providence Children’s Museum now is close to a range of family services, including Rhode Island Hospital/ Hasbro Children's Hospital. The site is within walking distance of the downtown business district and Providence's inner-city neighborhoods, facilitating relationships with traditionally underserved audiences. All you need is around you!
